Senco Gold was originally incorporated in 1994 in West Bengal, India.
The company empowers the jewelry market with the most modern techniques and advanced designs. Presently, they are established in 16 Indian states with more than 150+ retail showrooms.
The company is the largest organized jewelry retail player in the Eastern region of India based on the number of retail stores.
The IPO of Senco Gold was held in the month of July 2023. The shares were priced at ₹ 158.50 (price adjusted for 2/1 split in January 2025).
On the listing day, the shares opened at ₹ 215, touched a high of ₹ 222 and eventually closed a volatile day at ₹ 202.65 per share – gains of 27.9% for those who showed confidence in the company’s IPO.
After the couple of months of consolidation after the IPO, the share price gained in favourable market conditions.
The stock closed the calender year of 2023 at a share price of ₹ 348.33 – more than double of the IPO price and an excellent 72% gains over listing day.
2024 remained a great year until September, with the stock price hitting an all-time high of 772 per share in 1st October.
Since then, it has been a downward slide. The stock price has crashed more than 60% from its highs, highlighting the risks smallcap investing carries. The rally upward can be sharp, however, when the downward slide begins – the stock price can crash pretty quickly, giving investors little or no chance to exit, eventually leading to panic selling in weak and uncertain market conditions.
What is interesting is the fall in margins of the company before IPO and after. The margins have gradually come down from more than 10% during IPO time to around 4% now, leading to a severe impact on the bottom line.
