Can Fin Homes is a housing finance company based in India. It was established in the year 1987 by Canara Bank, with the aim of promoting ownership of homes in the country.
The company provides housing finance, non-housing loans and has depository schemes.
The historical share price of Can Fin Homes has been a mixed bag. The 20 year period between 1993 to 2013 was a test of patience for shareholders.
The small and mid cap rally after the Narendra Modi government was elected in 2014 – saw the share price of Can Fin Homes rise more than 1600% in 3 years between 2014 to 2017.
The economic slowdown that followed resulted in the shares falling nearly 65% – from a high of ₹ 666 in June 2017 to a low of ₹ 217 in October 2018.
Just when the Can Fin Homes business was witnessing a recovery, Covid hit the world and the month of March 2020 saw share price of the company fall by more than 45%.
Since then, through to the year 2024, the Can Fin Homes share price has been growing steadily.
It has been a volatile journey 2013-onwards. Early investors have been rewarded, even though the business itself is cyclical – and holding it ‘forever’ may not really be a great idea.
